Key dates
- Last day to register online: Wed, Oct 7The Secretary of State's 2026 calendar lists October 7, 2026 as the 'Last day to register to vote' for the November 3 general election (fourth Wednesday before the election, RSMo 115.135). Online registration closed then.
- Last day to register by mail: Wed, Oct 7Mailed applications had to be postmarked by October 7, 2026. The St. Louis County Library's voter page puts it the same way: 'The last day to mail in a registration is Wednesday, October 7.'
- Last day to register in person: Wed, Oct 7In-person registration at your local election authority, the DMV, or a registration agency also closed October 7, 2026. Missouri has no same-day or Election Day registration.
- Early voting: Tue, Oct 20 to Mon, Nov 2Missouri calls this 'no-excuse absentee voting in person.' The SOS: 'From the second Tuesday before an election to the day before the election, you may vote a no-excuse absentee ballot in person' at a site your election authority designates, until 5:00 PM the day before the election. For Nov 3 that is Tuesday, October 20 through Monday, November 2, 2026 (STLPR: 'In-person no excuses needed absentee voting begins: Oct. 20'; KCUR: 'Oct. 20-Nov. 2, 2026'). Bring a photo ID. No notary is needed in person. St. Louis County has 21 sites: the Board of Elections HQ (725 Northwest Plaza Dr., St. Ann) plus 20 satellites, including eight county library branches (Cliff Cave, Clark Family, Daniel Boone, Grand Glaize, Grant's View, Lewis & Clark, Mid-County, Thornhill), the St. Louis Galleria, STLCC Meramec, UMSL, Olivette City Center, Wildwood City Hall, North County Rec Complex, Dellwood Rec Center, JFK Community Center, and several churches. Board of Elections hours: weekdays through Oct 30, 8 AM to 4:30 PM; Saturday Oct 31, 9 AM to 1 PM; Monday Nov 2, 8 AM to 5 PM. Satellite sites: the same hours, weekdays since Oct 20. Closed Sundays. Confirm your site's hours with the Board (314-615-1800) or its satellite lookup map. Before October 20 (from September 22), only voters with one of the six excuses could vote absentee in person, at the St. Ann office.
- Last day to ask for a mail ballot: Wed, Oct 21Applications for a ballot to be mailed to you must be received by your election authority by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The SOS 'How to Vote' page: mail or fax requests 'must be received by the election authority no later than the 5:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday prior to any election.' STLPR, KCUR and the St. Louis County Democrats' logistics page all list Oct 21. St. Louis County absentee desk: 314-615-1833, boecabsentee@stlouiscountymo.gov. City of St. Louis Absentee Department: 314-622-3230, stlcityabsentee@stlouis-mo.gov. Relatives within the second degree (spouse, parents, children) may complete the application for you, in person.
- Mail ballot deadline: Tue, Nov 37:00 PM CT
- mail (USPS); it must arrive at the election authority by 7:00 PM on Nov 3 (St. Louis County: 'must be received by the Board of Elections by 7 pm on Election Day'). Postmarks do not count.
- hand-deliver to the election authority office. State law (RSMo 115.291) limits who may deliver another voter's ballot to a relative within the second degree (spouse, parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, brother, sister, or a parent- or child-in-law). Friends and neighbors may not.
- St. Louis County: the Board of Elections office at 725 Northwest Plaza Dr., St. Ann, during business hours (Mon to Fri 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM). On Election Day, absentee ballots can only be turned in at the Board of Elections office, not at polling places (Board FAQ, April 2026 election). In April the Board also took returned absentee ballots at satellite sites during satellite hours; confirm for November with the absentee desk (314-615-1833).
- City of St. Louis: the Board of Election Commissioners office at 300 N. Tucker Blvd., Mon to Fri 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A relative or guardian returning a ballot for you must bring it there in person and sign a form saying how you're related. Absentee Department: 314-622-3230 or 314-622-3319.
- military and overseas voters: separate rules; see the SOS military/overseas page
- Election Day: Tue, Nov 3You can vote from 6 AM to 7 PM. SOS: 'polling places are open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Election Day.' If you are in line at 7:00 PM, you still have the right to vote.

Your election office: St. Louis County Board of Elections
314-615-1800

What to bring
Photo ID required in person.
No ID? On Election Day you can cast a provisional ballot. It counts if either (a) you return to the same polling place before 7:00 PM with an acceptable photo ID, or (b) the election authority finds the signature on your provisional envelope matches your voter registration record. You get a stub with instructions to check whether it counted. Most registered voters' provisional ballots do count on the signature match, but don't gamble if your ID is at home. In-person absentee voting (Oct 20 to Nov 2) is different: the Secretary of State says 'In person absentee voters are not eligible for a provisional ballot,' so bring your photo ID when you vote absentee in person.
